The Australian Academy of Robotics and Science Education

Overview

Australian Academy of Robotics and STEM (AARAS) Education is a leading provider of Coding, Robotics, and STEM Education nationally. They are involved with various competitions and have won many in the past. They work with custom robots, LEGO robotics, and all levels of coding.

LEGO robotics is a LEGO-compatible platform that uses LEGO parts, motors and electrical components to perform programmable tasks. This format makes it easy for children to use pre-existing LEGO skills and expand upon them to create fully functional robots. It has various sensors such as touch, colour, luminosity, torque and ultrasonic distance. They were all used to navigate through tasks such as mazes, obstacles and more.

Scratch is a block-based coding language that uses small visual code segments to allow younger learners to understand the concepts of sequencing and scheduling in a more intuitive way.

To teach this, I required a flexible approach that enabled me to allow them to reframe their current reality into a different format that a computer could understand.

Personal projects

Ubuntu server

This website

I made this website to be a portfolio of all my work. It is the culmination of all my efforts, my achievements and all that I have accomplished in my life.

It is a custom setup using the open-source website builder WordPress running on a personal Ubuntu-based server with Oracle. I also have a personal domain that allows all of my personal DNS needs to be met.

Doing everything from scratch isn’t the easy option, but I chose to do it this way because I have a passion for working with software. Even if it’s harder, every obstacle I overcome drives me even further, every failure injects determination, and my stubbornness to see the end delivers results.

Automatic Fish Feeder

Using an Arduino and a Raspberry Pi, an auger was used to dispense fish food. The Arduino handled controlling the mechanical parts while the raspberry pi hosted a camera for monitoring the fish and to allow any code updates. The system worked well while I was on my summer holiday.

Design Technology

HSC Design and Technology is a challenging subject. It involves hands-on practical activities that develop knowledge and skills in designing and producing products. My product was an aquaponics system that could filter a fish tank and grow fresh produce. It involved various skills to create it, from programming to CAD and more.

Parramatta Marist High School

STEM Club mentor

At PMH, STEM club allows students to work together to complete innovative projects and participate in external competitions where students can showcase their design and engineering skills. The skills developed here have assisted me with developing leadership skills, mentoring younger peers, managing teams and passing on skills and experience. Throughout my role, I organised and enforced project deadlines and assisted teams in task distribution and team management.

Vinnies Van helper

A requirement of going to Parramatta Marist is to show the pillar of love of work, where we need to provide value to the community. I worked with the society to deliver food to the homeless so they could find fulfilment in their most dire of circumstances.

Subs in schools ROV Professional Class

The Subs in Schools competition allows students to design either a Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle (ROV) or a submarine that they must operate. The competition involved various skills such as teamwork, computer-aided design, programming and fabrication to produce a finished and functional ROV. My team performed well overall and placed third in the Subs in Schools National Finals.

Hackazon – CEDP 2021

Hackazon was about learning about cybersecurity and putting our knowledge to the test by hacking websites to get information to complete tasks. My team at Parramatta Marist finished first with all of our members fully completing the competition before any other school. My team had 5 people, including myself and competed against 180 other students.
